I had decided, several weeks ago, that our soon-to-be three-year-old would be thrust into potty training boot camp as soon as we moved and we no longer had wall-to-wall carpet. She had acted like she was going to potty train herself several months ago, and she did well for a couple of days, and then…PFFT. Way more accidents than successes. We gave up and decided to try again in a few months. Fast forward a few months: she’s getting to be such a big girl now and well, hardwood floors.
She’s doing pretty well. When we put Henry through boot camp, he was 3 1/2, and he ran around naked for an entire weekend. After that, he was allowed underwear, and we didn’t leave the house for almost a week. Of course, every child is different. Parenthood would be way too easy if they weren’t. We haven’t had the luxury of holing up in the house this time around, and sometimes the girl gets cranky and cries when we tell her to go potty. And she also refuses to use to potty seat over the toilet now…she’s a small girl, so she does sort of an amazing straddling-act.
But man! You tell that girl she’ll get a piece of candy for going potty, and she’ll go five times in a row! “Now my get candy?”
