So…Ervin is three weeks and two days old now, and we’ve been to the doctor six times to get him weighed since we got home from the hospital. At only two of those appointments, he had actually gained weight. SIGH. Out of the four children, he’s been the easiest to breastfeed, so it’s pretty frustrating that we’re still having problems.

My theory is that when he nurses, he nurses slooowly and gets tired before he can get enough to eat. At the doctor a week ago Thursday, they told me that I needed to nurse him, then give him a bottle of pumped milk, then pump. If you’ve ever nursed and/or pumped, you know that it takes some time. The whole process takes me at least an hour to an hour and a half. It’s exhausting me! Especially since while I’m pumping or nursing or giving him a bottle, every other child needs something from me and I can’t give it to them.

We’re going back tomorrow to get him weighed AGAIN and talk to the doctor about what we need to do. He’s still about four ounces under his birth weight; hopefully we can get him back up and putting on weight so we can stop all of this extra stuff.

But don’t worry, buddy. I’ll do the best I can. You’re worth it.
