Y’all. This was a long month. But. BUT! I will have finished NaBloPoMo tomorrow when I do my Project 365 post, and even managed to write all of the posts the night before (or sooner). I feel accomplished, and totally exhausted.
I did learn a few things along the way, in this posting-every-day-in-November journey, and I’d like to share them with you.
1. When forced to come up with 30 blog posts, things became a lot more, shall we say . . . confessional. Especially towards the end of the month, when I was down and stressed out and ready to not be solo parenting anymore. If I hadn’t had to write something on those days, I wouldn’t have. But I did, so I ended up writing depressing, grumpy things that I wouldn’t normally have shared with the Internet world.
2. When forced to come up with 30 blog posts, I brainstormed topics, sure, but I also just wrote a lot of random things, which is what I used to do when I started blogging.
3. When forced to come up with 30 blog posts, I became very nostalgic, going back through the years a couple of times and sharing memories that were tough.
4. I like writing fiction, even if it’s sort of non-fiction because it’s based on a memory. (what do you call that?)
5. When forced to come up with 30 blog posts, I found that I can still prioritize writing (or maybe that I can prioritize it, period, because I’m not sure I ever have).
6. I couldn’t post every day for any longer than a month, but I did actually enjoy this every day in November exercise.
Did you do NaBloPoMo? What did you learn from it?
I like your confessionals and nostalgia. Do it more. xoxo
[…] G@Funk@ified: What NaBloPoMo Has Taught Me […]
I completed NaBloPoMo as well! I may have missed a day or two (but double posted the next) due to technical difficulties but I did it! This was a first for me. It was great to visit and read blogs that were new to me. I cannot really say that I learned anything but I did enjoy participating.
Congrats, Greta! I finished NaBloPoMo too! I'm exhausted, but I learned a lot from it (wrote about it yesterday). I also did a Halloween through the years type post too! And I really appreciate your number 5, above. I didn't always prioritize writing either, so it felt good to do that. But now I feel like there were other things I didn't have time for because I was always writing. Time to catch up with that! 🙂
I think, at the core, blogging is about confession and nostalgia and your day to day. At least, that's what it used to be… I had a big discussion with my hubby about that and decided that it's okay to write that way. That when I let go of the preconceived notion of what I should blog about and just enjoy it for what it is, I have more fun and do it more! Nevertheless, I think you and Alison and Katie are amazing for writing everyday for 30 days straight. Kudos to you!
You make me want to try it next year. Sort of.
Congrats on writing 30 days in a row!!
