We live just off a rural highway. We have a false sense of secrecy, almost, with the canopy of leaves and trees.
We hear birds chirping and farm equipment rumbling as often as we hear the cars go by.
Though the sense of alone-ness is vague and all-encompassing, the sense of danger is just as real. It will probably be 2024 before I let any of the kids cross the street to get the mail themselves.
I run on that road, but only at the break of day or the start of the sun’s descent. And even then, the frazzled nerves that come with motherhood make it hard to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The breeze and the shade, even on the hottest days, are good for the soul.
The occasional excitement of a band of motorcyclists whizzing by add a touch of novelty to the under-10 set.

Next week’s prompt is HOME.
It looks so pretty there!!
Beautiful pics and your muse could not be any cuter!
Love those two pictures – it's very pretty there! (I bet it gets humid though in the summer, yes?)
So much green where you are. All that land – it's beautiful.
Those pictures are gorgeous.
So green and springy where you are! I love a green canopy over a street – it has always seemed like an image straight out of a book. 🙂
Love the picture you painted with your words. It reminds me of my former home town in Germany. And I like the second photo with the street peeking through in the distance.
Even though we are in a semi-rural area, we live on the busiest street, right through the heart of town. When my children were younger I was petrified to let them out with me not hovering over them. Then play dates. Having to watch not only my kids but make sure other kids weren't darting out into the street. Oy vey. Your property looks beautiful. I hop on my bike and I'm out in the country in 10 minutes. Looks a lot like your photos.
It's a beautiful rural street!
that's exactly what I dream of. I mean, I love our neighbourhood — it's safe, the people around us really are amazing and friendly – it's nice. But what it is not; is quiet. Like, ever.
A little more space between houses would be nice. And, room for gorgeous big trees like you have! Love that shot.
This is a LOT like the street I grew up on. There was more farm equipment that went down it than actual vehicles! Great shots!
Thanks, Katie! The huge combines and tractors are kind of annoying when you're driving behind them, but super cool to the little ones.
