It’s safe to say that I’m burned out on training for a half marathon. It just is….no one will argue.
I started training for the Disney World Half back in September, and while I was training for that, I signed up for another one here in Kansas CIty in April. I took off a couple of weeks after Disney, and then got right back into it so I didn’t lose any momentum.
Which means that for nearly seven months, I’ve been running four days a week, including a long run every weekend.
I. Am. Burned. Out.
The next half is April 12, so I have to get through the next four and a half weeks and I can take a break for a while. Not running altogether, just training. I’m excited to get back to running a few miles a few times a week, when I feel like it. I’m excited to not have every Sunday planned around nothing but prepping for the school week and running for hours on end.
I just want to get it over with, you know? I’m ready.

Hey, did you know that you can help Huggies with their Every Little Bottom program and donate diapers to babies in need, just by playing fun little games? You can, and it’s super easy. Find out how here.

I’ve alluded to the fact that I’m the new owner of a website, Today’s Work At Home Mom. I’m really excited to be bringing it back to life with a ton of content and resources from amazing people who are doing great things working from home (or working full time). In the process, I’ve officially become a work at home mom myself (it was totally unofficial before). I’m still learning a lot every day about running a website like this, and I need your help and your support. I know it’s not for everybody, but I would love for you to check it out. If you think it might help you, feel free to subscribe to the newsletter or RSS, follow on social media, and share with your hard-working moms and friends. And, I’m looking for contributors, so if you’ve got something to share—tips, recipes, stories, etc, get in touch with me and we’ll chat about it.
So, that’s my update with things that are going on right now. Soon, potty training and a third birthday party. Next month, Kindergarten Round-Up (not the same child). GAH. Then the end of school and summer, camp, swimming lessons. If you need me, I’ll be changing the bag on my coffee drip.
The Angelas (of Jumping With My Fingers Crossed and Angela Amman) and I want to see your funny, your yummy, your heartfelt, your favorite phone photos of the week. All you need is a blog post containing at least one photo from any phone camera. Link up below, and don’t forget to visit some of the others!
Two half marathons in a year is really so awesome! I totally get that you need to take a break from training. I haven't trained in so long, I'm sort of the opposite. I need something to train for. But running just for the love of running and getting oustide (or on a treadmill) will be a nice break for you.
Congrats on your new web site. I'm so excited for you. And I'm so glad you put up the subscription link, for some reason I had not subscribed yet. I am now though. I can't wait to see where you take this Greta.
Thanks, Angela! It's a lot of hard work (all of it), but hopefully I'll be able to do well. Here's hoping!
I feel for you (though I've never trained for anything, but I can sort of imagine)!
April 12 isn't that far away. Right after that, PLEASE take a break. 🙂
Yay for TWAHM!
I will take a break, definitely. The problem will be not letting it turn into a permanent thing. 🙂
What about cutting your running down to 3 days a week…. I always trained with just 3 days instead of 4. 🙂
So, did you run two shorter runs during the week, and then one long one on the weekend? I think this week may end up like that, if nothing else….Daylight Savings has kicked my butt.
Yay for TWAHM – very exciting! And did you just say summer break? I just got goose bumps – I need to get through Spring Break first 🙂
GAH. I know. I shouldn't have mentioned it. We have to get through the next two and a half months first!
so happy for you & the new site, Greta! you're amazing! i'm here to help and support you whenever you need it, just say the word!
xoxo
Thank you, Erin! I'll take all of the support I can get.
Just keep running, running, running… Sorry. I couldn't resist.
Siiiigh. 🙂
So much going on. I'm sorry I haven't been around much but ever since I started working at the kids' school I just haven't had much time for blogging or blog reading – I'm usually to pooped at the end of the day to deal with it!!! Good luck with potty training but I'm sure you've got this, by now you are more than a pro! 🙂
Great job signing up for another half marathon. I am thinking about doing the Disneyland Avengers Half Marathon in November as my first one. Thanks for the motivation.
Why does it always seem like a good idea to sign up for the next race before the last race is even over? I am guilty of that as well, I guess it's great motivation to keep on keeping on! I admire you but you are right, you need a little break after this next race, put your feet up and enjoy all that you have accomplished!
Girl, I can understand why you would want a bit of a running break. That's a lot of training.
Little Erv is so damn cute! 🙂
Congratulations on your new website. I am still learning to make SAHM official 😉
You are a rock star with all that running. Truly. I can't even run one mile. Your spring sounds like ours – never ending THINGS. Before you know it, it will be summer. See you on the other side. 🙂
