It’s no secret that I’m a sugar-holic. I’m addicted to sweets. I crave the sweet stuff.
Lately, I’ve been drinking three cups of coffee a day, and no, they’re never black.
And yes, I do still really, really like the whipped cream on top, but for one of those three, I try not to have it. I try. I really do.
That one up there? It has milk and a sweet little packet of Splenda Flavors for Coffee (in Vanilla). Really good. I don’t even miss the whipped cream (Mostly not.)
I’ve also been swapping out real sugar lately to try to cut down on ALL THE SUGAR because oh my goodness THE SUGAR. High octane, regular ol’ sugar just adds too many empty calories, and sometimes? I really need those empty calories at the end of the day for, you know, wine or an extra snack (you know the days I’m talking about…not every day. Just, certain days.)

Here are some details:
- Experts recommend women consume no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day, yet the average American eats 22 teaspoons daily!
- Most of us vastly underestimate the amount of sugar we eat because the sweet stuff is hiding in some of our favorite foods and beverages, like vanilla lattes, fruit flavored yogurt, salad dressing and cereal. Once we realize where the sugar is hiding, we can come up with ways to eliminate the excess sugar from our diets!

There is good research that sugar substitutes (and Splenda is my go-to) help healthy weight people STAY healthy weight.
Yes to Splenda and no to aspartame! I definitely prefer Splenda (and wish they would make Diet Pepsi with it, not just Diet Coke).
I'm with Dr. G on this one. I don't love artificial sweeteners, but I prefer Splenda to most if I have to & have the choice!
I used Splenda regularly when I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes! It was so helpful. In general, I really try to manage my sugars with a diabetic dad.
I'm trying to give up the sugar right now, or at least cut WAY back, and it is so hard. You are right. It is in everything. I do use Splenda in my coffee, but that is the only artificial sugar I have as well. I've noticed that cutting it really helps with cravings. it's nice to have a little something you can trade when you just need that sweet stuff fix.
I use Splenda in my yogurt every day. I actually prefer it to sugar.
We use Splenda at our house too. My husband has a family history of diabetes, so we are always watching our sugar and reading labels.
I am also addicted to sugar but don't drink any sugary drinks. It's the sugar in candy and cookies that does me in every time! I'm always trying to cut back.
Coffee is about the only one I drink anymore. I drink UNsweet tea…sometimes some flavored water. Lots of lukewarm unflavored water. Appetizing, eh?
