This fun weekly link up is hosted by Penny of The Real Housewife Of Caroline Country and Amber from Bold Fab Mom. For Ask Away Friday, bloggers pair up, swap 10 questions, and answer them on their blogs. It’s such a great way to get to know someone better!

AskAwayFriday

This week I’m swapping with Katie of Sluiter Nation! Check out my answers below, then hop on over and see how she answered my questions.

1. What is the story with your blog’s name?
So, when I signed up for Twitter in April of 2009, I’m pretty sure my husband suggest “GFunkified”. Or maybe I came up with it…I can’t remember. I’m a white girl without soul, and I thought it was funny. Anyway, I followed some celebrities and random people and hardly posted anything. When I started my blog the following year, I called it Not Enough Patience and Never Enough Jewelry (I was a mom with a home-based jewelry business). In 2012, I was no longer a “jewelry lady” and wanted to be more “myself”, kind of rebrand my blog to be more “me.” My friend Julie was like, just call it GFunkified. Bam. Done.

2. You are a runner. How did you get into running?
My mom told me that she had started the Couch To 5K program almost two years ago. I thought I would give it a shot…I had never been a runner before (in fact, quite the opposite). But I tried it (three times) and on the third time, it stuck.
3. Your About Page says you have your Masters Degree…in what?
Business Administration. My Bachelor’s is in Earth Science. There’s plenty of back story there, but I’ll save that for another day.
4. You have raised LOTS of money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. How did you get involved with that?
You know Laura of Mommy Miracles. She wrote a post about becoming an ambassador for LLS and signing up for The Walt Disney World Half Marathon. I commented on the post that it was a dream of mine to run in a Disney race, and one of the LLS folks commented back that I should check it out. And I did, and though I was terrifed of the fundraising, signed up almost immediately.

5.  How old were your oldest two children when you married your husband? How did the transition go to having a new dad?
My oldest, Henry, had just turned three when we got married, and Ivy was almost a year and a half. They were too young then to remember their dad, and warmed up to him right away. As soon as we were married, he was never anything but “daddy” to them. Now, of course, they know all about their dad in heaven, too.
6. Do you see any of your first husband’s personality in your two oldest?
It’s funny, because I watched my oldest jump rope the other day, and even though I’m pretty sure I never saw my first husband jump rope, I know that if I had, he’d have looked EXACTLY like Henry did. Henry is an artist, like his dad, and a bit of a dreamer. Not much of a dancer, but still likes to move. He’s also very snuggly…definitely a hugger. A creative type, for sure. Ivy acts a lot like me (poor girl).

7. Do you see T’s personality in any of the kids more than others?
Oh my gosh. YES. The Es, the two youngest, are SO MUCH LIKE HIM. Essie, especially, is his mini-me. She will get right up in your face and mess with you until you practically throw her across the room (or, you know, threaten to), exactly like her father. She doesn’t like to be alone, AT ALL.
8. For each child, what trait(s) did they definitely get from YOU?
Ivy is the most like me. She’s sensitive. She tears up at sad movies. She also loves to dance, and has some pretty good moves (I like to think I do too, when they come out). She loves to shop and pile on the accessories. Henry, like me, gets a little emotional during things like the song about grandparents at grandparents’ day at school. He’s a great speller, and reads well. Essie has my hair, just more blond. She’s also a beast when she’s tired, which I freely admit to being responsible for. Ervin…hmmm. He likes to sing and dance when there’s music in the background. He’s kind of his own creature in looks and personality. They all have blue eyes like me (and my first husband).

9. You are so good at photography and you do lots of posts that include photographs that you take both with your DSLR and your phone…why do you love taking pictures so much?
You know, if I went to therapy or really talked it out, I think I might come to the conclusion that it has something to do with losing my first husband and oldest brother. Or maybe it’s my inability to hold onto not-so-distant memories in this overfilled, unfocused brain of mine. Either way, I don’t ever want to feel like I’m missing pieces.

10. What do you hope your legacy will be?
Oh boy. That’s a loaded question.

Legacy : something (such as property or money) that is received from someone who has died: something that happened in the past or that comes from someone in the past

I want to leave behind stacks and stacks of photos that tell our story. I want to leave behind two strong, independent daughters and two thoughtful, kind sons, all of whom make the world a better place just by being in it.

Thanks for the great (but tough!!) estions, Katie!
