Ivy joined a basketball team, and because of some miscommunication, she had one practice before her first game last Sunday. Her team is made up of a group of her first grade friends, so she’s having a lot of fun so far.
But she’s small, and because she had only gone to one practice (and a week-long basketball camp this past summer), she wasn’t really sure what she was supposed to be doing during the game.
It was hard for me to watch, in the beginning. It looked like she wasn’t trying, because she was hanging back a lot. But the longer the game went on (it was a whopping 45 minutes long), the more she started getting into it and hustling.
And her sister and brothers? They were so good. Even the little one. Of course, there were some distractions…
She had her second practice last night, and she was so excited to get ready to go and be there.
I’m so proud of her for trying her best and not giving up when things are hard.
What’s something that your kids have done lately to make you proud?
Robin at Farewell, Stranger and I want to see your funny, your yummy, your heartfelt, your favorite phone photos of the week. All you need is a blog post containing at least one photo from any phone camera. Link up below!
How cute are your kids?!?
Great for Ivy to try her hand at playing a team sport. She'll have a blast.
My kids do stuff all the time that makes me proud, I just can't think of anything right now because they are both in my office with me, playing with the dog and yelling at each other and driving me insane…
Thanks, Kerstin! And I'm sure something will come to you when they're not driving you crazy. 🙂
That is awesome! How great that she was looking forward to it – that's when you know they are having fun. 🙂
My oldest had a judo tournament the weekend before last, and I was so proud of how hard he tried and how much he has improved in the past year. It was amazing to see.
That's awesome! I love that he's sticking with it.
That's awesome! Good for her. And I can imagine how hard it is for mama to watch her little girl do something unfamiliar and new. 🙂
So hard…I was cringing a little. But it got better, thank goodness!
She has the spirit!
It's awesome that she's trying, and better yet, enjoying it.
That was totally in your cheerleader voice, wasn't it, Alison?! Yes….I lvoe that she's enjoying it and working hard.
So cute! Love that she is enjoying it. My daughter is that way with gymnastics…she loves every minute of it, and that makes me happy 🙂
Both of my girls would love gymnastics! But, we're 45 minutes away from the closest classes. Maybe in the summer.
She is doing great! It is really hard to join a new sports team and if she is getting out there and hustling she will rock it. I was never the best at sports but I was good and got a lot of play time because I always won "Best Hustle" at the end of the season. For real. Short Girl with Good Run. I love the photos!
Haha! Best Hustle is definitely worth striving for, especially when you're a short girl. Thanks, Brittany!
What a wonderful thing for her to get into! I would have been nervous watching too!
I can't say I enjoyed it until probably the second half!
So cute!! I love it! I was proud of Eddie when he did gymnastics this summer…and he was proud of himself too. That was the BEST part!
Ah, yes! When they're trying so hard and they know it. 😀
Way to go Ivy!
Thanks, Jennifer!
Yay Ivy! But you also deserve some credit amiga. You are probably a good role model for her to keep trying. 🙂
Aw, way to go Ivy! So awesome that she is having fun and trying her best. How tough to go to a game with so little practice, but she hung in there!
Such a little basketball star! And I love Erv's spiky hair in the profile picture of him 🙂
I love that Ivy is playing basketball! We are a very, very sporty family except for Lucy and I kind of love that about her. It makes me proud in a whole different kind of way. She is submitting a novel to a kids' novel writing contest, drawing picture books for her stuffed animals & practicing the piano every minute she can. She is doing her own thing.
We are a basketball family, too, and it is exciting to see your kids hustle and do something that is so immediate and physical. Way to go Ivy!!
These are too cute! I also want my kids to be active in sports and that is why I'm enrolling them in sports clinics every summer. Way to go, Ivy!
