The weather is changing. Here in Kansas, especially in the spring and fall, temperatures are all over the place. We’ll have one week of glorious, sunny, warm weather (like this past week), followed by a week of cold, rainy, dreary days.

As we move further into November and closer to December, the lows are lower each day. Sure, we’ll be hit with a surprise day (or several) of warmth and sunshine, but they’re fewer and further between.

I’m not looking forward to snow and ice. I see the pictures on Instagram of the first snowfalls for many and I am not envious. Last winter, I believe we had (maybe) two substantial snow storms. For me, that was great. For the kids, disappointing. They’d be thrilled with snow every. single. day.

I can do without the cold, messy, white stuff or the clear, slippery, dangerous stuff that requires coats to be put on for the walk to the car, then taken off to buckle into car seats. The stuff that results in mud and puddles inside the door of the house and countless accidents of children not paying attention. The stuff I’ll have to walk through twice a day (once in the dark) to feed and medicate the diabetic outside dog and again to meet the bus.

I’m a scrooge, but I’m not looking forward to it.

That’s why this weekend, while the temperature was still in the 70s but the sky became ominous, we took it upon ourselves to go outside and enjoy it for a while. And that night, the rain and cold came.

How do you feel about winter? Do you have it where you live? Do you enjoy it?
