Ivy, my second child and first girl, is so alike me in a lot of ways. She’s got a….unique fashion sense, a love of accessories, a super shy personality, and smarts.
She’s little Miss Independent, and since finishing preschool, she’s proven that over and over again. Doing her summer worksheets from school all on her own, riding the bike that her big brother won’t even sit on, and most recently, teaching herself to swim.
On Father’s Day, the three big kids and their daddy got in the bathtub warm swimming pool out back and swam for at least two hours. During that time, she started going underwater, blowing bubbles, trying to float.
Then, all of the sudden, she was underwater, kicking her legs and flapping her arms until she had propelled herself across the pool.
She hasn’t had swimming lessons in two years, y’all, and the last time she did, she was in the kiddie pool.
I’m so, SO proud of my little fish. She’ll be five next month, growing up far too fast.

I’m also linking up with the fabulous Galit and Alison for Memories Captured this month!
That is so awesome!! Love her smile, she looks right pleased with herself 🙂
She was, Alison! And I'm sure it helped that I was cheering like crazy. 🙂
Wow, that's pretty cool that she did this!!! Such a proud Mommy moment 🙂
Visiting from Memories Captured Link up
Thanks for visiting, Erin! It WAS awesome. And yes, I was so very proud!
So glad #ippp is back 🙂
She's so adorable and WTG little lady on teaching yourself to swim! That's one of the most important things you can learn….to try something new…and she nailed it 😉
Me too, Amanda!
She continues to surprise me! Such a get-to-it kind of girl.
Little fish! And uh, your pool is warm? When are we coming over?
It IS warm. Probably because it's not very big. 😀
Oh, how cute – she does look proud of herself!
We were both quite proud!
I loved these pics when I saw them- the color of the water and her eyes is incredible!!
Thank you, Farrah! I just love summer pictures for that very reason.
Such cute pics! I, too, have a daughter (right in the middle of 2 boys) who is very independent! A few years ago, I took her and her older brother for swim lessons, where she had NO fear, jumped in, swam off to the deep end.
My son? Sat on the edge of the pool with his big toe barely in the water and had a battle of wits with the instructor over whether he was actually going to go in the pool or not…:)
Great, proud, moment for you! 🙂 Love it when little girls show their AWESOME.
Exactly! Her big brother is scared of everything. Baffles me. But her? She just gets it done!
Wow, that's great. Hoping my daughter learns to swim soon!
I hated to take last summer off of swimming lessons, because it's so nerve-wracking to take them all to the pool when they can't swim. But alas, a summer with a newborn was not the time for lessons. Now, she'll be kicking booty when she has lessons in July!
So glad to find iPPP back up and running (thanks to Amanda's blog)! Your little fish is a cutie.
Yay! So glad you found us! And thank you. 🙂
Ohmygoodness *such* a big girl!
Isn't she?! And all on her own. So proud.
That's amazing. It's pretty cool when they teach themselves and swim like little fish. My kids could be in the pool all day long.
I know! My littlest is having swimming pool issues right now that are complicating things. As in, he hates it. GAH.
You must have been so proud! I love that your daughter takes the initiative and figures things out on her own. That's the coolest!
PS, Wasn't #iPPP a linky over at Belle Bean Chicago Dog? Does it have a new home now with you? #livingunderarock
You're not living under a rock! Liz and KLZ tried to very quietly retire it, but when I asked if there would be one, Liz told me I was welcome to take over if I wanted. So, I enlisted my partner-in-crime, Julie Mash. 🙂
It really is so cool! It's like pulling teeth to try to get her big brother to sit down and practice something, so the fact that she does it on her own is a HUGE relief.
Wow, I'm impressed! That's definitely something to be proud of – and the summer is just starting, so she'll get lots of practise!
Thanks for doing the iPPP link-up – love it!
I know, I'm so proud of her! She is going to get a ton of practice, and when she takes lessons is a couple of weeks, she'll have such a good time.
Thanks again for linking up with us, Kerstin! I hope you'll come back next week!!
Good for her! I'm jealous that your pool is warm. Mine is still too cold for me!
Our pool is very small, and therefore warm. 🙂 But I hope yours warms up soon, too!
She is completely adorable . . . and determined!! I would link up with you but I don't know how to get the pictures I take on my phone off of my phone. Why yes, I am a total techno phebe!
You know what, Jenn? I always email them to myself from my phone, then open it on my computer and download from there. 🙂
She is determined, and I LOVE that about her!
ohmigosh – yay! Good for her! Such a big day when they do that!
Missy, it was HUGE! I didn't even think it was possible, honestly!
Congrats to your little girl. That is so exciting that she learned to swim on her own.
