I feel lopsided

I feel weighed down.

I feel overwhelmed.

But I also feel strong.

Like I can take on the world.

I have super powers:

The power to stir a pot of marinara with one hand,

The power to walk the house, turning off lights at every corner,

The power to stop a wrestling match with one raised eyebrow.

I can lull the baby to sleep with a long shush and a rhythmic bounce.

With a baby on my hip,

I feel calm,

Or harried.

I smell soft brown hair

And get a slobbery, toothy kiss on the cheek.

With a baby on my hip,

I’m the most accomplished dancer

And the loveliest lullaby-er.

I feel needed,

I feel powerful,

With a baby on my hip.
