I am so excited to be part of Max’s Pawsitively Exciting Children’s Book Blog Tour! Maximus (known as Max) is an English Labrador that is working hard to raise money for Leader Dogs for the Blind through his book “Dogs Work Too!”.
You can purchase a copy here.
The book is fun and educational; Max visits and learns about Leader Dogs that work with the visually impaired. Portions of the proceeds for the book go to the organization.
Max was gracious enough to let me interview him about his upcoming events and what he hopes to accomplish. Here are his answers:
Q: I heard you wanted to be on the Ellen Show…how are you going about it?
A: Actually, it’s funny you ask. See, many love hearing my stories and what I do for Leader Dogs and have sent letters and tweets to @TheEllenShow, yet it seems that I haven’t made her dog “A” list yet. I tried sending a few tweets and emails to her but have yet to hear a response. You know she is busy raising a family so I don’t mind and know when the time is right she will hopefully respond. I tried for a whole year to get on Oprah and The Conan Show but again had no luck… I never give up and hopefully you will see me on there one day.
Q: What do you hope to get out of it if you do make it on the show (besides some dance time with Ellen)?
A: Well, of course I will dance with Ellen even though I have two left feet! I want to tell her all about what I do from the writing to winning book awards, the great times with children and most importantly, my friends at Leader Dogs for the Blind. Actually I would take some of my friends with me to the show. I know it would be an educational experience. I hope that we would get to talk about Leader Dogs and actually demonstrate the unique skill that they have to learn. Last by not least, talk about my new book about Leader Dogs. I think it would be fun for the whole family. Ellen loves animals and I sure hope I am part of #TEAMELLEN
Q: Tell me about your new songs.
A: So, you read about the great news. I have officially signed with Center Sound Records Label out of Raleigh, North Carolina. 2011 Emmy Nominated Writer/Producer Craig Brandwynne will be writing and producing original songs inspired by my adventures. The first song is being worked on as we speak. I also am excited because there may be opportunities to have big name talent sing some of my songs. We are making all songs initially available on electronic download. Eventually I will have a whole album of music for purchase. It should be great. Maybe a holiday album too. The best part about the project is that a huge portion of the proceeds from each song will be Donated to Leader Dogs for the Blind. So ….. Stay Tuned!
Q: What sort of events do you do, and where are your favorite places to go?
A: Great Question! Some of the events I have done have been dog store bakery book signings, library events, I have interviewed on radio stations, appeared in my own TV program, been to classrooms and schools, churches, fairs, art festivals, book festivals, blog sites, twitter, facebook, youtube, blog talk radio. I’m even going to appear in my own cartoon someday. Many of the events also include my Future Leader Dog friends. It is great. I often have slide shows of photos of my work and pictures of my friends. As for my favorite places to go, I love hanging out at schools and getting pampered. All the back massages and oohs and ahhs! That’s why I write books.
Q: How did you get started with your adventures?
A: Well, my adventures started when I was born. My parents picked me out of the litter and painted my toe nail. Being a boy I was a little confused at first, but it all turned out ok. They picked me up in an RV on one of their travel camping trips and I toured the whole Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was so much fun swimming, playing in the rivers, chasing butterflies, and seeing all the great stops along with way. That trip is where I got my love for nature and camping.
Q: What has been the best part of doing what you do?
A: Watching the faces of children as well many parents who can relate to my adventures and meeting me. It’s amazing how a simple dog like myself can bring such happiness. I think the best part for me is watching children read, learn and write. It’s rewarding to know when you at least have inspired one child.
Thank you, Max, for taking the time to answer my questions. Just for that, here’s a photo of you as a puppy for everyone to Ooh and Aah over…
Isn’t that the cutest little face you’ve ever seen??
