Major domestic success today! Don’t you like the sound of that: domestic success? I do. It doesn’t happen very often for me, but when it does, it feels oh, so good. When we went to see T.’s parents last week, he went through his mom’s cookbooks because he has been wanting these particular Mennonite recipes that he used to have. He found one that was about 60 years newer than the one he wanted, but it would have to do. And I love reading cookbooks way more than I enjoy cooking, so of course, I had to flip through it a few times. This morning, before getting out of bed, I decided to look through it and find something with ground beef in it to make for supper. I ended up with an easy enough meatloaf recipe, but I’m going to be honest….I have never in my life made meatloaf. It’s always kind of freaked me out a little bit. I’ve eaten it, but never made it myself. So anyway, I decided to make it, even though I had to tweak the recipe a little because I was missing a couple of ingredients. But guess what? It was a total success! It was good, and easy, and everyone ate it. Even Ivy. And that girl will almost never eat any meat besides chicken nuggets and breakfast sausage. T. gets major kudos for getting her to eat the first bite, but she liked it, and ate it all! It’s practically a miracle, I’m not even kidding.

AND I crocheted a little this evening! I haven’t done that in months. I’ve hardly done it since Essie was born and I had my wrist surgery. And then I had all of those (mostly unfinished) Christmas sewing projects, and all of the home shows I’ve done in the last two months. I’m pretty sure I did it right, too…I couldn’t actually remember how to get started, but it felt right and looked right, so it’ll do.

But today wasn’t quite as easy as I’ve made it sound. When the kids spent the night at my parents’ house Saturday night, Henry came down with the cruddy cold that the girls and I have had for the past few days. Ivy has obviously gotten her appetite back, and Essie and I also seem to be at the tail end of it, but all day, all four of us were coughing and blowing our noses and laying around. Not terribly productive, but at least I made good meatloaf!
