It’s late. And I’m sleepy (what’s new?). But I wanted to quickly update you on Ervin’s weight thing…
(Disclaimer: I apologize, but this is another nursing-heavy post. It’s all-consuming right now. Proceed at your own risk. That is all.)
After two days (Sunday to Tuesday) of just pumping and feeding him bottles of milk or formula, Ervin gained SEVEN OUNCES! Yay!! He is now, FINALLY above his birth weight!
I was pretty nervous about where to go from there, because none of the other kids had any problem putting on weight, whether they nursed or not. So I decided to transition slowly, nursing only a couple of times yesterday and still pumping a bunch and relying mostly on bottles. But today, I’ve nursed him several times and he’s taken only about an ounce of formula or pumped milk afterward. I consider this quite a success, since I’m working on getting my milk supply up and it seems to be working so far if he doesn’t need much extra supplementing.
I really want to thank everybody for their support, suggestions, happy/heavy weight thoughts. I obviously don’t have it all figured out yet, but Big Erv and I are working on it together, with your help. I appreciate it!
I went through the same with my preemies. I tried nursing for ages and they were losing instead of gaining. It was SO stressful and I felt like I was failing. I ultimately pumped and supplemented with formula until they started gaining and it worked great. Hope things continue to improve for you!
I hope it's going famously for you, now!! Just keep doing what your doing and it'll all kick in. 🙂
